As well as providing day-to-day operational and strategic financial management, Jim has used his fundraising, tax knowledge, and turnaround/crisis management experience to benefit a variety of clients involved in industries as diverse as agriculture, the creative arts, energy, life science, and charitable/not-for-profit ventures.
Fundraising successes range from £5 million equity funding for a multinational company to £385,000 debt financing for an arable & livestock farming business. Jim’s tax knowledge has benefitted clients, such as £800,000 Research & Development in tax credits for a biotech company and arranging a not-for-profit client’s partially exempt VAT activities to avoid losing £185,000 per annum.
Jim qualified with a small firm and went on to become a manager with Ernst & Young before spending 14 years in Du Pont and Conoco’s oil and chemical businesses. He subsequently worked with startups and turnarounds situations, in energy, waste management and biotech.
In addition to his commercial activities, Jim is pro-bono Finance Director of a local community cinema, and also financial advisor to a re-use charity.
