Thomas is a Chartered Accountant with a technology-driven approach to finance. He helps clients grow by using modern technology to streamline operations, add scalable revenue streams, and build commercially integrated finance functions. By identifying profit drivers with analytics and financial modelling, he can provide Boards of Directors with the data-driven insight needed to make better decisions and improve financial performance.

In addition to being an experienced Finance Director, Thomas was appointed Managing Director of a digital agency where he managed multi-functional teams. This experience brought together his financial acumen with his ability to think strategically.

  • Turning around an under-performing digital agency to deliver double-digit profit growth and three years of record profits.
  • Transforming a health & fitness business with B2C software to add a scalable online revenue stream and streamline the booking process, resulting in a 15% saving of staff time and exponential growth in customers.
  • Planned and negotiated the purchase of an 8,000 sq ft Central London office in three months, saving the business +£250k per year.

Gordon Griffin

Qualified as a Chartered Accountant, Gordon is registered with both the ICAEW and the SAICA.  He qualified with Deloitte and worked with both listed companies and SMEs.

Since leaving Deloitte, he has had over 20 years experience as a Finance Director in a multi national group and was responsible for managing growth from $5 million to over $50 million over a ten year period.   This included start-ups, acquisitions and disposals, as well as managing the entire finance function, including multi-currency cash flows, business and financial risks and group strategy.

Gordon has proven skills in financial analysis and financial reporting, customizing reports and relevant KPIs to enable better management and control of companies.  He encourages a strong focus on working capital and cash flow management to ensure sound financial health.

Over the years, Gordon has had work experience in the UK, Europe and Southern Africa.  He has been involved in property companies, international trade and services, manufacturing, mariculture and charities.  Work at a recent client helped a turnaround from a significant loss back to good profitability.  He also assisted in the preparation of forecasts for a major capex development, and participated in successful negotiations for appropriate funding for the project.

Anupama Choudhury

She is skilled in Hyperion, Oracle, SAP R/3 and Microsoft Access

Before joining FD Solutions she was a key member in the due diligence process that preceded investment by a Venture Capital fund into a growing business that provides on-line sales and margin data to retailers. Earlier in her career she was a financial analyst at the BBC and a finance business partner in Direct Line Group, where she helped to deliver cost savings of 12% without detriment to turnover.

Graham Elliott

Graham is a chartered accountant and corporate treasurer with a broad knowledge and experience gained over 25 years in finance. He trained and qualified with PwC with whom he spent ten years based in London and New York and where he gained experience of many sectors including manufacturing, retail, healthcare, professional services, shipping, life and general insurance, funds and banking.

He spent 15 years in senior roles in financial services with ABN AMRO and then Deutsche Bank during which he partnered with the businesses as CFO for the global activities of a number of businesses including FX, commodities, interest rate trading, and treasury, managing teams across the globe. He also was responsible for the Group internal control oversight and governance.

Graham has led and delivered major improvement projects in internal control and process, governance, structure and organisational change, and in activities such as cash and liquidity management, business acquisition, market and operational risk.

Graham is driven by a desire to contribute and deliver value-adding advice, innovation and improvement.

Mark Guilford

Mark is a chartered accountant (FCA), and has over 20 years’ experience as an FD, working in manufacturing, distribution, professional services, technology and house-building. He has worked in the UK, France and the Netherlands, for US-based multinationals, a small-cap plc and family-owned businesses.

He has a wealth of experience of financial modelling, using activity-based costing techniques. This analysis has helped several companies to identify the key profit drivers in their business, enabling them to develop less profitable areas, apply cost reductions, and to grow dynamically their most profitable segments.

He has helped companies to negotiate acquisitions, disposals and joint ventures, and to integrate acquisitions, ensuring that full benefits are derived from business synergies.

Mark has helped clients implement robust internal controls, improve month-end reporting processes and developed KPI analysis. He has recruited and developed finance teams to provide value added reporting.

Mark qualified with PwC, and spent the first ten years of his career with them in audit, computer audit and management consultancy. He is a member of the ICAEW’s Finance & Management Faculty, the IT Faculty and the Interim Management Special Interest Group.

Paul Randall

Paul has worked in a variety of businesses from start-ups and SMEs to large corporations.  He has 20 years’ experience from the publishing, engineering, professional services, retail and not-for-profit sectors.  He has held Board positions in the private and charity sectors and is used to thinking strategically whilst rolling up his sleeves and working closely with colleagues to get the job done.

Paul has overseas business experience and has managed periods of rapid international growth.  He has set up subsidiary operations in Brazil, Dubai, Turkey and the USA.

He understands the benefits of developing a supportive finance function, with efficient systems and processes, and pertinent financial and non-financial management information.

He has been heavily involved in the sale, acquisition and subsequent integration of 3 businesses and worked extensively at managing successful transitions of finance and non-finance functions.

Paul has lived and worked in France and Macedonia.  He is ACCA qualified and gained his MBA from Cranfield University.

Malcolm Durham

Malcolm, FDSolutions’ co-founder, has a law degree and is trained in mentoring and corporate finance. These skills enable him to guide businesses to create achievable strategies that can be soundly financed. After 25 years in the business he has many connections who are available to help clients with issues beyond the scope of Flexible Directors.

Examples of Malcolm’s expertise include:

  • Creating the business model for one of the first help-desk operations in the country, bringing in investment from 3i. It won contracts with Microsoft before a successful exit
  • Restore financial control in a software business which had lost £2m of VC investment. It returned to profit in 12 months
  • Help a major London theatre recover from poorly conceived capital projects and fallout from 9/11, to become one of the most highly regarded theatres in the UK. Since then the Arts Council has sought out FD Solutions to assist other members

Malcolm qualified as a chartered accountant with Stoy Hayward (now BDO) in 1985, later becoming FD of quoted Baldwin plc, concentrating on acquisitions, disposals and shareholder relations.

Clive Eplett

In 15 years as a part-time FD, Clive has helped companies in areas as diverse as hospitalitytechnology, online education, travel, media, aero-engines and retail.

Assignments for these clients has included major strategy enhancements, fundraising and business modelling, finance recruitment, forensic audit, mentoring and stressed cash management and turnarounds.

His other interests include:

  • boosting cashflow through improved processes
  • Enhancing strategy using the Business Model Generation Canvas
  • protecting stakeholders when banks introduce Reporting Accountants
  • transitional accounting arrangements when a business is bought out of a larger group

Clive qualified with a big-8 firm. Subsequently he spent ten years as FD in a quoted pub group, initially sorting out an inherited accounting mess, after which the business delivered nearly a decade of 25% compound growth. He also led several acquisitions plus AIM and full LSE listing, managed the IT and EPoS departments and for his last 12 months also led property development.

Kim Dovell

Kim is a qualified accountant and company secretary with extensive experience in fundraising, business planning and financial modelling.  Kim works across business sectors but has particular experience in the healthcare and media & marketing sectors. Her key areas of expertise are:

  • Getting “investor ready” – preparing information memorandum and financial projections to support fund raising initiatives
  • Developing KPIs and quality management information
  • Improving cash and working capital management
  • Establishing, developing and leading finance teams
  • Improving financial procedures and processes

Prior to joining FD Solutions, Kim worked as a part-time FD providing support for growth companies. She worked with management teams to develop the investment proposition, build the business plan and financial models and provide support throughout the fundraising process. Earlier in her career, Kim worked at BTG plc, where she managed a large US/UK team and was part of the 5-strong Executive Committee responsible for strategic development of the group. She played major roles in fund-raising transactions totalling £250 million and has extensive experience of organising due diligence, preparing shareholder circulars and working with advisory teams.
