Tim started his career in 1992 with two years in the corporate recovery department at Pannell Kerr Forster.
He then joined Prêt A Manger in 1994 and while there qualified with CIMA. Tim later founded the IT department which he ran for three years providing IT and EPOS support to 80 stores in the UK. This included implementing the head office network and managing the testing and roll-out of a bespoke EPOS system.
In 2001 Tim joined Benugo - a coffee shop/deli start-up - as FD. During four years Tim helped the business grow from £1.5m to £10m turnover with 12 outlets which included several catering contracts within large financial institutions. During this period Tim evolved the accounting function, established internal controls and reporting, and upgraded the accounting system from Sage Line50 to Exchequer Enterprise.
Tim has been a consultant to several small businesses including a 25-site UK cosmetics franchise for which he developed a five-year growth model to seek funding from the brand owner; a designer and importer of gifts and accessories supplying UK and US retailers; and a small restaurant chain being divested from its parent company.
Immediately prior to joining us, Tim spent two years as FD at Deliverance, a £10m-turnover food delivery business supplying consumers in their homes and places of work. Tim developed the management accounts, integrating with the accounting system and significantly reducing time taken to complete and issue the monthly pack. He introduced weekly trading reporting; the setting of operational targets for unit managers; and a web-based payroll/HR/time and attendance system.
Tim also secured Deliverance a £100,000 VAT refund and an improvement to gross margins by agreeing with HMRC a reclassification to zero-rated for a range of food products.
In addition to his commercial experience, Tim has been a primary school governor for three years, where he chairs the finance committee.
