Since joining FD Solutions in 2009, Tim has worked with a wide variety of clients and in many business sectors, including IT, training, property services, catering, event management, leisure and business services.
As well as providing day-to-day Finance Director support to these organisations, improving both the management reporting and the accounting processes, Tim has developed sophisticated financial models for many clients. These typically provide the ability to enter business assumptions to generate a budget and thereafter compare to actual monthly results allowing re-forecasting throughout the year.
Tim has become our in-house expert on extracting data from SQL-based accounting systems such as Microsoft Dynamics NAV (formerly Navision) and Access Dimensions into management reports that can be updated each month at the click of a mouse. By linking Excel directly to SQL Server, Tim has produced management accounts, project tracking reports and automated cashflow forecasts.
Prior to joining FD Solutions, Tim spent two years in the corporate recovery department at PKF, then joined Prêt A Manger and, while there, qualified with CIMA. Tim later founded the IT department which he ran for three years providing IT and EPOS support to 80 stores in the UK.
In 2001 Tim joined Benugo as FD, helping the business grow from £1.5m to £10m turnover with 12 outlets. During this period Tim evolved the accounting function, established internal controls and reporting, and upgraded the accounting system from Sage Line 50 to Iris Exchequer Enterprise.
Tim spent two years as FD at Deliverance, a £10m-turnover food delivery business. He developed the management accounts, integrating with the accounting system and significantly reducing time taken to complete and issue the monthly pack. He introduced weekly trading reports; the setting of operational targets for unit managers; and a web-based payroll/HR/time and attendance system.
In addition to his commercial experience, Tim has been a primary school governor for three years, where he chairs the finance committee.
