Jim qualified at a small firm and then became a manager at Ernst & Young before spending 14 years in Du Pont & Conoco’s oil and chemical businesses, where his role was to manage change and continuously improve performance, particularly in the UK and Scandinavia.
From 1994 until joining us; Jim:
- At Independent Energy, a new entrant into the privatised electricity market, he was instrumental in obtaining and managing financing through equity and working capital, as well as implementing systems (Pegasus ‘Opera’), and procedures to enable rapid growth.
- At Aquila Energy he integrated a retail gas sales operation, setting up a system vital to hedging its margins.
- At National Grid Transco he reorganised the contract engineering services division, helping it on its path to independence and profitability.
- At Bywaters, a waste management company, he avoided financial difficulties by completing a sales invoice computerisation project, establishing effective credit control, and upgrading Microsoft’s ERP system - Great Plains.
- For PVAXX, a biotech business developing polymers and other environmentally sensitive but economically viable materials, Jim re-engineered the business model from production through to licensing.
Since joining FD Solutions, Jim has:
- Become CFO for an AIM-quoted oil & gas exploration company;
- Completed the paperwork within a month for an overseas company looking to list on AIM;
- Assisted a not-for-profit organisation obtain a £500,000 overdraft facility to enable business development;
- Successfully orchestrated the transfer of a creative designer’s business from a limited company into a more tax-efficient LLP;
- Compiled £536,000-worth of successful R&D tax credit claims for two years for a biotech company; and
- Assisted a number of AIM-quoted companies to convert their accounts to IFRS.
