Who We Are: Jim Halliday

Client Finance Director

Jim joined FD Solutions in February 2006 and as well as providing day-to-day operational and strategic financial management, he has used his fund-raising, tax knowledge, and turnaround/crisis management experience to benefit a variety of clients involved in industries as diverse as agriculture, the creative arts, energy, life science, and charitable ventures.

Fund raising exercises included:

  • £5 million equity funding for a multi-national company;
  • £385,000 debt financing for an arable & livestock farming business

The successful application of Jim’ s tax knowledge extends to:

  • obtaining an £800,000 Research & Development tax credits for a biotech company;
  • arranging a not for profit’s partially exempt VAT activities to avoid losing £185,000 per annum.

Jim qualified with a small firm and went on to become a manager with Ernst & Young before spending 14 years in Du Pont and Conoco’s oil and chemical businesses, where his role was to manage change and continuously improve performance, particularly in the UK and Scandinavia.

From 1994 until joining FD Solutions, Jim was involved in a number of start-up and turnaround situations, including:

  • Independent Energy;
  • Bywaters, a waste management company and;
  • at PVAXX, a biotech business.

In addition to his commercial activities, Jim is Finance Director of a local community cinema, and also financial advisor to a re-use charity.  Jim also advises on corporate governance and is a regular participant in PricewaterhouseCoopers non-executive directors’ forum.
