Ian joined FD Solutions in 2003, and he has worked, in a wide range of sectors as diverse as specialist engineering, bespoke jewellery, theatres, ice cream production, washroom services and many more. Particular areas of focus include professional services not for profit and the owner-managed business sectors.
Ian has a regular portfolio of clients for whom he provides part-time Finance Director services – doing those things that a full-time Finance Director would do, if the client had, or needed one. In a number of cases the relationship with the client has spanned many years, giving the client ongoing consistency and stability in their financial management.
He currently acts as part time Finance Director for an Arts Council funded organisation and has been involved in various arts based projects. He previously headed the finances of a charity with a substantial endowment fun, and is Treasurer of the Worshipful Company of Firefighters.
Ian is responsible for the FD Solutions internal training, and for the management of the company’s know-how and expertise. Ian recently visited the FDS Paris office to demonstrate the use of the company’s generic accounts and forecast models – to the local staff and potential customers. In French!
Prior to joining FD Solutions, Ian worked both in practice and commerce. He qualified with a major London firm, before spending a number of years as a partner in a firm in his home town of Southend. This was followed with a spell in commerce, acting as FD of a distributor of specialist components – a business which subsequently became, and still is, a client of FD Solutions.
