Since joining FD Solutions in 2009, Andrew has provided ongoing FD expertise for a range of companies in the South West of England. This includes companies in the construction, training, travel and leisure, charity, consulting and wholesale merchandising sectors. Assignments have also included work for the Arts Council, a popular events venue and several international manufacturing companies. Andrew has also provided support to insolvency practitioners acting as company administrators or CVA supervisors.
Andrew has made significant enhancements in the systems, reporting and management control in all his FD roles, utilising his IT skills and providing advice and financial direction for the management team. This has included the development of automated management accounting and cash flow forecast models linking directly to data in the clients accounting systems. It has also included applications for new funding and managing company finances through severe cash flow difficulties.
Prior to joining FD Solutions, Andrew was finance director of a number of companies and divisions within multinational corporations in the papermaking and packaging sectors. He then started his own company to provide outsourced finance director services to small and medium sized business.
After qualifying as a chartered accountant with Ernst & Young, Andrew joined a chemical company in Cambridge and then took his first FD role with a subsidiary of Rexam plc in 1988. He assisted the company through a number of changes in ownership and was actively involved in developing and implementing a strategy to deal with market decline of its main product line. The strategy involved developing new products and markets including opening a plant in China and Andrew ultimately led the UK and Chinese operations as general manager for two years.
Andrew helped sell the company to a competitor and remained with the business in non-financial management roles before rejoining Rexam as FD of it medical packing division. After leaving Rexam, he provided outsourced FD services to companies in the metal fabrication, glass manufacturing and construction industries.
