I hope that you had a good break over the Christmas and New Year period. As winter sets in my mind turns to sunny holidays and rugby, especially the 6 Nations. England’s performance in the autumn was well short of auspicious. I think our best player in the World Cup was Jack Whitehall, who made me laugh even on the second and third viewings. So changes were made and a new era is about to dawn…
Working with dynamic organisations as we do, I understand if you viewed that with a certain degree of scepticism. After all there has been a succession of new coaches and regimes since 2003, none of which have made the step forward that the largest rugby playing nation seeks. But the link between size and success has never been proved, it’s how resources are deployed that counts most. I hear that Eddie Jones understands this and attends to detail with a fanaticism that is not familiar to many. Leaders can be criticised for attending to detail but maybe we shouldn’t take all this criticism to heart when, for example, we hear that Steve Jobs once required a change in the pantone of the Google logo on the iPhone. I think that an ability to see the bigger picture AND get into the detail when required is a key element in leading an organisation.
In order to do this you need tools so that you know where you are going and how to get there. I recommend 5 Apps: the Corporate Cashflow Calculator gives you a financial plan for one and five years, and the WealthBeing calculator shows you if the plan is enough for your wealth requirements. Skype and Dropbox enable you to share information and see what people are doing with it wherever they may be working. And if you’re not making good progress on your own then hook up with a mentor via the Rockstars Mentor App. The links for all of these are on our website.
I think that 2016 will be a year of great change, like 2015, and the years before that! Our ability to cope with change, getting tools and skills to help us do so, will determine our position at the end of the year. I hope that these Apps will help you in your endeavours.
